Sliding gates
A sliding gate travels laterally along the fence line. It can suit entrances without swing clearance, but needs a clear run and appropriate track or cantilever design. Keep drainage and debris in mind.
Start with the site, not the catalog. Space beside the opening, grade, vehicle approach, wind exposure and pedestrian movement usually narrow the options quickly.

A swing gate pivots inward or outward. It needs enough arc clearance and a suitable vehicle approach. Grade, wind and the position of vehicles waiting to enter all affect its suitability.
A separate pedestrian route may be safer and more convenient than sharing the vehicle opening. A barrier arm controls traffic differently from a full gate and should be assessed against the security goal.
