Project guide / New installation

New gate installation: plan the entire entrance

A good proposal covers more than a gate leaf and opener. It should explain the opening, operator, safety devices, access method, power and how the system will be serviced.

What to evaluate

Decisions that shape the system

01

1. Define the entrance

Measure the clear opening and available stacking space. Document vehicle types, peak traffic, pedestrian movement, drainage and the location of utilities. A sliding gate needs a clear run beside the opening; a swing gate needs unobstructed travel space.

02

2. Choose a gate and operator together

Gate weight, geometry, wind exposure and daily cycles affect the operator selection. Ask for the proposed gate type, operator model, safety devices, release method and warranty in writing.

03

3. Design the access process

Decide how residents, guests, deliveries, vendors and emergency responders enter. A keypad alone may work for a small property; a high-turnover condo may need temporary credentials, intercom or a managed visitor workflow.

04

4. Plan power, connectivity and ongoing care

Ask how the gate behaves during an outage, what network or cellular connection is required, who manages credentials, and what routine maintenance is expected. Coastal exposure makes material selection and inspection especially relevant.
